If you have any questions, please always feel free to contact Logic via the
Feedback form as he is always happy to hear from our viewers and will gladly
answer any questions you may have. But please be courteous when
contacting us as we have been getting a lot of angry people sending us messages
and calling us demanding why the cameras are not online or to get them back
online now (I'm serious). For those that are not aware, the development and
maintenance of this website, weather stations and cameras are all made possible
by the owners of Viper Logic who donate their time, effort and money to make all
this happen. And we also like to recognize the organizations below that also
allow us to maintain our equipment on their property.
For those interested, here is a brief summary on why the cameras are still down.
When we moved our office back in March, it meant that our main wireless tower
that is installed at that building had to be shut down when we left. This is
our primary tower that communicates with all the other towers located around
the Palm Springs area. We had originally planned to move the tower with us
and thought we could accomplish this within a resonable timeframe of a couple
of weeks but we ran into problems which is why the cameras never came back online.
Then our prior land lord approached us and was very kind to allow us to keep
our tower installed there even after moving out but we would need to
provide our own power via solar panels and batteries. Being that this is our
primary tower, it has a lot of equipment installed on it so the power
requirements are not light and based on our power calculations, the solar option
will cost us several thousand at minimum. To make matters worst, we also had
some equipment burn out at the Visitor Center which is going to cost over a
thousand to replace it. And if you can believe it, it costs around $1,000 to
$1,400 a day to rent a lift. Also to be honest, we don't care to work on the
roof or tower when it's 110F to 115F outside so thankfully the weather is
cooling down a bit. We've had to perform some quick repairs in the past in the
summer months and just don't know how people can do this for a living at this
temperature.
