Palm Springs Weather Cam Updates

June 25, 2008
Well a few months have gone by and the Hughes cams are still running strong. However it appears that Cam #7 has recently died. We can still communicate to that location but the camera appears dead which we are hoping is just a power supply problem. With the temps in the 110 to 115F, there was no way we were going on the roof but with it cooling down a bit, we may just head over there shortly. We also need to head down to the Tourism Center for Cam #8 and replace the camera server which is on the tower. What's interesting is that it dies every 1 to 2 days but mysteriously comes back up.

The Tourism cam #8 went down yesterday and we have identified the problem down to the cam server which takes the video feed and transmits the photo to our office. Thankfully the wireless feed to that location is fine so we just need to replace the cam server unit. We hope to have it back up in about a week.

The cameras are looking good. For the next couple of days, you may notice the cams going offline periodically as we fine tune everything but please be assured that these outages are temporary.

Hughes Properties being the first remote wireless station on our new network, we ran into a couple of minor problems but everything is now resolved and running very good. We brought up the 3 cameras at that location but now need to spend some time tweaking the video quality which we will be doing the next couple of days.

Heusso Gallery, here we come!

February 8, 2008
We went to Hughes Properties today to perform a wireless signal test and we were successful. We will now schedule for the installation of the wireless equipment to be performed sometime next week so stay tuned.

We completed the new wireless network installation at the office today so we will now be moving to the remote camera installations. The first location will be Hughes Properties since the cameras are already fully functional so we only need to install the wireless radio which will give us 3 great camera views. Stay tuned as we should have another update in a week.

By the way, the Visitor Center Camera #8 is now back up. 8-)

We have been receiving a lot of emails from viewers especially since the New Year wondering when all the cameras are coming back online. I know we were hoping to have the cameras back online months ago but please understand that the efforts involved grew as we encountered many problems along the way. For instance, we are currently in the process of upgrading our entire wireless network which covers the city of Palm Springs which also required long lead times in equipment deliveries. We are now installing the Access Point equipment on our office tower and will be installing the remote radios throughout the city the next few weeks. You can bet that we will bring up each camera one by one as we complete the radio installation for that location as we are as anxious as everyone else to see these back in action again.

The Huesso Gallery cameras will also take a little longer to bring back online as the building recently had the roof resurfaced and unfortunately they had to pull all of our wiring.

The Hughes Properties cameras are ready to go back online as soon as we install a radio at that location.

Check back here for the latest news as I will be updating our progress every week now that we are making steady progress. Our goal is to have all 9 cameras back online by the end of Februrary if not sooner.

Thanks for your patience,

Viper Logic Team
